Buckler shields made by hand in the same workshop as the bracers.
George has fenced at HEMA Penzance for many years, and he makes steel bracers and shields in his workshop. His bucklers are made by hand, one at a time.
The round buckler has a wooden face with a steel boss at its centre, and a rim bound in leather and laced with brass wire. The shaped buckler is dark wood with a steel boss, its edge bound in riveted brass strip, with two notches cut into its top edge. Both are held by a hardwood grip that runs across the back of the boss, so your fist sits inside the steel.
