Prudence
The Lynx · Above the head
No creature sees better than me, the Lynx. And I always know my angles and distance.Fiore dei Liberi · Getty MS
Prudence stands above the head because it is the virtue of the mind, and it comes before every other. The Lynx holds a pair of dividers, the mason's tool for measure, because the swordsman does not strike first and think second. He reads the distance, weighs the guard his opponent stands in, and knows what will happen before it happens. Half of Fiore's art is fought in the eyes, in the moment before a blade moves. Measure twice, cut once.
